BCIS is the UK’s leading independent construction data and cost benchmarking platform.
It provides subscription-based building cost, valuation and carbon data to the built environment and insurance sectors. The platform is trusted by property and insurance professionals, helping organisations in the UK and overseas to make informed decisions on construction projects, valuations and risk assessment.
Partnership to invest in technology and data
LDC backed BCIS’ management team, led by James Fiske, in June 2022 in a carve-out from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) to invest in the business’ technology platform and data in order to enhance its services and insight for its customers.
With LDC’s support, BCIS successfully pursued an ambitious growth strategy to establish itself as an independent platform and market-leading data and insights business.
In 2023, the business acquired price book provider Griffiths and Hutchins to expand its offering and in 2025, it launched BCIS Rebuild Plus, an AI-enabled tool that enables insurers to validate and address underinsurance across residential and commercial properties.
In March 2025, Richard Linstead, previously Chief Product and Technology Officer, was appointed CEO, with James Fiske becoming Executive Director.
Sustainable partnerships and launching new tools
BCIS invested heavily in its ESG performance during its partnership with LDC.
It launched a Cost and Carbon Materials Database to improve carbon estimating and benchmarking and partnered with former LDC portfolio company NBS to help support the industry’s transition to net-zero buildings.
In 2024, the business won the Net Zero Champion Gold Award at the Engineering Matters Awards in recognition of its commitment to decarbonising the built environment.
2026 marks 65 years of BCIS supporting the built environment with trusted construction cost data. Today, BCIS is trusted by more than 4,000 subscribing organisations across construction, infrastructure, asset management and insurance, supporting decision-making in cost planning, benchmarking, forecasting and risk management.
Four years of growth
In May 2026, LDC exited its investment in BCIS to Bowmark Capital following a four-year transformational partnership during which BCIS achieved recurring revenue growth at over 25% per annum, more than doubled EBITDA and increased headcount from 30 to more than 80 people.
