Q&A
What surprised you most about starting your own business?
Nothing prepares you for it. On day one, there were four of us sitting in the office waiting for the phone to ring. I went from being a corporate CEO to buying ink cartridges, writing job adverts and interviewing staff. You have to leave your ego at the door and be willing to do absolutely everything. It’s also a completely different kind of pressure because every decision, every customer relationship and the wellbeing of every employee ultimately comes down to you. It’s way harder than I ever imagined but it’s also an incredible privilege.
Where do you see the biggest opportunities for growth?
I think there’s a massive opportunity to adopt AI to become more efficient. As CEO, my job isn’t to think about today, it’s to think about tomorrow. We’ve got brilliant managers running the day-to-day business; if I feel myself getting too involved, I’ll pull myself back. If founders aren’t seriously looking at AI now, they’ll be left behind.
Why did you choose to sponsor racing driver Daniella Sutton?
She’s a hugely driven young woman who competes with Juvenile Arthritis and is breaking barriers in motorsport. Of course, the sponsorship helps raise awareness of our brand in an exciting way but it’s about more than marketing. I took my three daughters to Silverstone a few weeks ago to watch Daniella race. We went into the garages afterwards and they absolutely loved it. It was a genuinely inspiring experience for us all.
