Our mission is fast and accurate diagnosis for every patient, everywhere.”

Dr. Farzana Rahman
CEO, Hexarad

Q&A

How did you fix the problem of too many scans, not enough radiologists?

Farzana: We are all radiologists by background so we had the clinical expertise. Radiologists work for us in their spare time. Many are working parents who don’t have the bandwidth to work in private hospitals but want to earn some extra money from home around their NHS shifts. Without a diagnosis, there is no treatment, and radiology is a key part of that. It can take seven weeks for the NHS to turn around an outpatient scan; we do it in 48 hours. For urgent scans, we can do it in 15 minutes.

What is unique about your technology?

Amy: One customer told us that their old teleradiology provider was like riding a donkey and Hexarad was like driving a Ferrari. We have built an integration engine so our system can talk to the NHS. Our CTO Tim Baker is a software engineer who used to work at Deliveroo. He introduced text messages so that if a doctor refers a scan, you get updates just as though you had ordered a pizza on Deliveroo.

What next?

Amy: We have helped three million patients directly but indirectly helped many more because we have forced our competitors to up their game too. We have done what we created Hexarad to do but the ambition isn’t over. We have gone from helping individual trusts to helping regions. Now we want to improve efficiencies nationally across the whole NHS. After that, we’ll look at overseas.
