Q&A
How do you build culture?
We create opportunities for people to spend time together. We have a monthly Wild Walk, Wild Wednesdays where everyone gets together for lunch and business updates, and we celebrate success whenever we can. We’ve also rolled out Insights Discovery across the company. Everyone has coloured Lego blocks on their desk showing their communication style. If you’re red, get to the point. If you’re blue, you’re analytical. It sounds simple but understanding how people communicate helps us get the best out of each other.
How important is sustainability to you?
Having spent much of my career in fast fashion and consumer goods, I wanted to join a B Corp with a strong sustainability focus. We’ve never used plastic supplement pots. Subscribers receive a glass jar once, then recyclable paper refill pouches, cutting packaging, weight and waste. We persistently strive to tread lightly on the earth and have set ourselves the goal of reducing packaging weight per active customer by 5 per cent every year.
What have you learnt about leadership?
I try to bring humility, positive energy and stay calm in the face of problems. Running definitely helps with that. I live in East Sussex and run along the beach three or four times a week. For me, running is like a sieve. My thoughts bounce around and, by the end of the run, the biggest and most important ones remain in place.
