In July 2006 LDC backed the management buy-out of BigHand.

London-based BigHand supplies software that allows users to dictate directly onto their firm’s computer network from anywhere in the world.

The compressed and encrypted sound file is transferred instantly to enable administrative assistants to transcribe and return the notes.

Founded in 1996, BigHand has grown rapidly capturing a 57 per cent share of the digital dictation market and achieving annual sales of over £7million.

The software has proved particularly popular in the legal sector with BigHand servicing over 400 law firm clients. The business also supplies its product to leading names in the accountancy and property management professions and is seeing increased adoption amongst medical practitioners.

In September 2005 the company ranked 51st in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100 with annual sales growth of 69 percent. It was also named the UK’s fastest growing private legal software developer.
