Specialising in energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly products, the business supports customers as they procure and deliver some of the largest housing investment programmes and commercial build projects in the UK. It also provides services from design and manufacture, through to installation and aftercare.
CMS Window Systems is the leading provider of 360-degree building envelope solutions to the commercial construction and social housing sectors.
In May 2016 CMS Window Systems (CMS) secured a significant minority investment from LDC. The deal will support the business’s expansion as it continues to capitalise on increased demand for energy-efficient products and services, further fuelling the organic growth of the company across Scotland and England.
The deal sees founder Andy Kerr, and his management team, remain as the majority shareholders, with LDC acquiring a minority stake.
Billy Allan will also join the board as non-executive chairman. Allan has significant industry experience, having held a number of senior board positions across the UK, including his role as chief executive of Aberdeen-based oil support services group, ASCO, non-executive chairman of support services group Europa, and prior to that chief executive of EJ Steill. Allan is currently non-executive chairman of Edwin James Holdings and Bowleven plc.
In May 2017 CMS secured two new contracts worth more than £10m. The business has been appointed to North Lanarkshire Council's window and door replacement framework, in a three-year deal worth £7m. This follows a £5m deal with East Dunbartonshire Council, which will also see CMS replace windows and doors with poor energy performance and recycle all extracted waste.
In December 2017 CMS took a step on its growth strategy path with the appointment of a new Chief Operating Officer (COO). David Ritchie joins CMS from a leading interior fit-out business where he was CEO, and brings with him a wealth of experience in senior roles within some of the building industry’s best-known businesses.
In 2018 CMS significantly expanded its manufacturing operations with the opening of a new 8,500 sq ft factory in Kirkcaldy. The investment of over half a million pounds has boosted capacity at its long-established recycling operation in the Fife town. It will add manufacturing capacity to produce doors as the business experiences record growth fuelled by rising demand from housebuilders, social housing providers, trade customers and contractors across Scotland and increasingly UK-wide. The new factory will initially produce around 200 PVCu door-sets every week. Its portfolio of products will ultimately include composite doors and fire doors offering 30 or 60 minutes of fire protection.
In July 2018 CMS reported considerable growth in its profitability, with EBITDA in the year to March 2018 increasing by 34.64% from just over £3m (2016) to almost £4.1m, this was boosted by record turnover topping £36m.
With LDC's investment and backing, we're now in an even stronger position to continue investing in our operations, scaling the business further and expanding across Scotland and England. This is an exciting time for our team, and LDC's track record and expertise will help us continue providing customers across the commercial and public sectors with the highest-quality products and services. Andy Kerr, Founder & Deputy Chairman, CMS Window Systems
