Supermarket customers purchasing chilled groceries have experienced an A-Gas product first hand: the Bristol-based company supplies some of the refrigerant used in the fridges of many retail giants.
The speciality gas and chemicals business serves a diverse range of customers, offering products for air conditioning, refrigeration, fire protection, water treatment and specialist gases that are used to find leaks in systems.
The company was founded in 1993, but a recent focus on environmentally-sensitive gases and chemicals has super-charged growth over the past few years.
In 2011, LDC backed the management team of A-Gas and invested £29m in the fast-growing business, providing a further £30m in follow-on funding to help the management acquire six international complementary businesses.
LDC exited the business earlier this year, having helped A-Gas to grow to 16 sites worldwide. Between 2011 and 2016 A-Gas grew 80pc, and the business now has customers in Europe, Australia, South Africa and the US.
“Our partnership with LDC has enabled us to build a group with real global scale and breadth of offering, whilst remaining fully focused on our commitment to technical excellence and customer service,” says Andrew Ambrose, group CEO of A-Gas.
“LDC’s financial, strategic and operational support over the last six years has been a key ingredient in our success.”
