Our Sponsored Athletes

Training for Track Success.

Meghan Beesley With her sights firmly set on the 2012 Olympic Games, LDC is sponsoring a dedicated junior athlete, Meghan Beesley.

On 10 February 2008, Meghan claimed the gold medal for the Junior Women's 400m title in the Norwich Union World Trials and UK Championships in Sheffield setting a Championship best of 3908 points which moves her up to fourth in the UK rankings.

The champion will now head for a triple test at the England Athletics Indoor Under 20 Championships in Birmingham where she has entered the 60m hurdles (currently ranked no.1!), 200m and 400m.

Meghan has also recently achieved the Midland Under 20s sprint double in the Championships' best time lowering the 100m best to 11.78 seconds. She is currently no. 1 for the Under 20's National Champion Pentathlon with the 4th best UK score ever and also achieved a Silver Medal at the Senior Midlands 400m with the 4th best time ever for the Under 20's.

Although things are never certain, her chances of making an appearance at the 2012 Olympics grow each week. Meghan is currently combining her A-level studies with high level competition so she understands that she must maintain a disciplined approach to all aspects of her life if she is to be successful. It will be interesting to watch her progress in the years to come.

Cricketing talent

Luke Radford In addition to Meghan, LDC are also supporting another young athlete who has his hopes pinned on playing for his county and ultimately the England Cricket Team.

Luke Radford, son of the former England and Worcestershire fast-bowler Neil Radford, is currently reading for a Sports Science & Business Management degree at Loughborough University whilst training with the Warwickshire squad.

It is no secret that Luke has been brought up in a cricket environment with not only his father playing for Warickshire and England, but with two of his uncles playing domestic first class cricket in South Africa as well. Surrounded by such top class sporting role models and passionate lovers of the game there is no question that the encouragement and opportunity for Luke to start playing at a young age was in abundance.

Although Luke does maintain that there was never any pressure on him to take up the game, it seems that being open to this kind of environment and being lucky enough to have such first class support available has stood him good stead.

Luke is already proving himself as a determined and promising cricketing talent and is already enjoying the fruits of his labour. Currently, playing for the Warwickshire second team it is his intention - with the support of LDC over the next three years - to break into Warwickshire's first team, with the ultimate ambition of playing for England.

We wish both individuals every success.

Like LDC performance is at the heart of these individuals, each one of which must give their all if they are to succeed. Their self discipline and determination drives their desire to succeed at the highest level. We at LDC are no different and supporting such talented individuals is another way of showing our commitment to being the best and trying to lead the way in everything that we do. Everybody needs assistance and guidance and if we can in some small way help Luke and Meghan then we, I am sure, will feel as proud of them as their closest supporters.
