World Cycle Challenge Success

Congratulations Mark - The fastest person to circumnavigate the Globe by Bicycle!!

On Sunday 5th August 2007, 25 year-old Mark Beaumont cycled out of Paris on a solo attempt to break the World Record to become the fastest person to have ever ridden around the world on a bicycle. Having been involved in endurance cycling for 10 years, Mark has a great deal of experience and, for the project, had been in training for 12 months.

On Friday 15th February 2008, Mark cycled across the Champs Elysees smashing the current record for the 18,000 mile trek by completing it in 195 days an amazing 81 days faster than the previous Guinness World Record.

This seven month journey included 20 countries with Mark travelling through Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australasia and North America before arriving back to the finish line in Paris. The ultra endurance challenge involved a mugging, a crash, rescue by the police from a crack den and pushing boundaries on a physical and mental level. Along the way he has met some fantastic people, had great support from many people and seen some extraordinary sites. His adventure has been filmed both by Mark and the BBC and this will be shared with a TV audience in the coming months.

Already supported by HRH Prince Philip and the acclaimed mountaineer Doug Scott CBE, LDC is very proud to be to be supporting Mark Beaumont whose performance, determination and commitment has been outstanding and an example to us all.
