On the right track – chasing success on and off the field, by Martin Draper, CEO, LDC

Whether it is completing a number of acquisitions, or exits, or winning a trio of gold medals, success takes hard work, focus, commitment and long hours.

As Team GB prepares for the upcoming Rio Olympic Games, the nation’s next generation of promising athletes is putting in months of training practice to the test as the 2016 competition season gets underway.

Here at LDC, we are the proud sponsor of the Birchfield Harriers ‘Junior Development’ programme for the fifth year running, and have already seen some fantastic results from the rising stars we provide funding support for.

Some particular triumphs include Dan Cartwright (shot) and Emma Hamplett (javelin) who proudly received their first GB vests after being selected to represent the British Under 20 team at the Loughborough International, competing alongside senior athletes like Olympic champion Jessica Ennis-Hill.

Another success to mention would be Katie Stainton, who was one of the first athletes we supported through our partnership with Birchfield Harriers, and it’s great to hear how she smashed five personal bests in the heptathlon competition at the England Athletics Championship earlier this year.

At the recent Birmingham Diamond League event, where eight stadium records were broken, our Junior Development athletes featured in a number of British Athletics relay races for young athletes, where Birchfield won 3 out of the 4 – a great performance!

The Rio Olympics will undoubtedly inspire our young athletes as they compete in meets and competitions this summer, and here at LDC we want to wish them the best of luck as they put steps into place that could see them going for gold at Tokyo in 2020.
