Deal Information

In April 2011, LDC made a significant investment in A-Gas in a deal worth £70million.

A-Gas is one of the largest providers of specialist industrial gases and chemicals and is now set to execute a rapid expansion strategy in the UK and internationally.

Since LDC's original investment in A-Gas, LDC has supported five acquisitons for its international expansion strategy within Australia and the US.

In March 2012 they acquired Technochem (based in Melbourne) and in April they acquired SA Rural (based in Adelaide and Sydney).

SA Rural is the second strategic acquisition completed by A-Gas and forms part of the Group’s acquisitive growth strategy which is being executed both here in the UK and internationally.

Established in 1984, SA Rural is based in Wingfield, Adelaide and is a leading supplier of pest management and fumigation products and services to the agricultural and grain industries in Australia. The acquisition further strengthens A-Gas Australia’s’ existing operations in the region and will form part of the Group’s Industrial Special Products business offering.

A-Gas have also completed the acquisition of a leading USA based refrigeration supplier and distributor, Coolgas Inc.

The deal considerably strengthens A-Gas’ existing US-based operations, and better positions the Group as a business of scale in the world’s largest refrigerant market.

It also complements the strategic acquisition of Ohio-based refrigerant reclaimer and halocarbon management specialist RemTec International, which was completed by A-Gas in July 2012, and extends the Group’s existing operations in the US Environmental Services market which is already well established in the UK and Europe.

In addition to deals with Coolgas and RemTec International, plus Australian-based Technochem in March 2012 and SA Rural in May 2012, A-Gas also acquired UK based A-Zone Technologies in April 2012.

As a result of the acquisition A-Gas now employs 237 people. The enlarged Group will have an annual turnover of circa £130million.

In April 2013, A-Gas scooped a hat trick of awards at the Wales & South West BVCA Management Team Awards including 'Mid-Market Management Team of the Year' and 'International Impact Management Team of the Year' whilst John Rutley won 'CEO of the Year'.
