The initial team will consist of up to 20 employees from LDC, the mid market private equity house of Lloyds Banking Group, plus volunteers from a number of companies LDC has invested in.
They will raise cash for good causes, including Help For Heroes, Maggie's Centres, the Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) and Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Many riders will be embarking on the 15 day, nine city ‘Tour de LDC’ as inexperienced cyclists who have trained to ensure that they can complete all, or at least certain legs of, the 15 day journey.
They will be accompanied by Mark Beaumont. An individual who has completed two incredible solo journeys – including a world record breaking circumnavigation of the world by bicycle – 18,296 miles in 194 days and 17 hours.
Recently returned from a similarly tasking 13,000 miles stint scaling the highest peaks in North and South America, Mark – from Dundee is also the subject of an acclaimed BBC documentary 'Cycling the Americas' and will spearhead the LDC team from start to finish.
LDC chief executive Darryl Eales said: “It’s amazing having Mark on board but a 1,100 mile ride is something of a training session for him whereas it’s a massive commitment from the people who are more at home behind their desks.
“That’s what is so impressive about people’s commitment to the LDC Tour – on some days they are cycling over 100 miles, visiting the offices of companies which are supporting us and dropping in on the charities we are raising money for.”
