Meghan Beesley
LDC sponsored junior athlete Meghan Beesley brought home team GB's second medal at the World Junior Championships in Poland in July 2008. She stormed the 400m hurdles to cross the line in third place clocking a new personal best of 57.08. This time was second fastest on the all time UK Junior rankings and places her third on the senior age group rankings for this year.
With her sights firmly set on the 2012 Olympic Games Meghan is steadily increasing her experience of training and competing at the highest level. At the 2008 National Junior Championships in June Meghan claimed two gold medals in the 400m and 100m hurdles. This ranked her top in both events for the year and sealed her selection for the Great Britain team competing at the World Junior Championship taking place in Poland.
In February 2008 Meghan claimed the gold medal for the Senior Women's 400m title in the Norwich Union World Trials and UK Championships in Sheffield. She also claimed this title in the Junior Championships setting a Championship best of 53.84 which moved her into second place on the UK all time rankings. At the same championships she also earned a silver medal in both the 200m and 60m hurdles.
Meghan also claimed Gold at the Junior National Combined Events Championships in the pentathlon in a championship best of 3908 points which moves her up to fourth in the UK rankings.
Although things are never certain, Meghan's outstanding record and providing she continues her progress, the chances of making an appearance at the 2012 Olympics grow each week. Meghan is currently studying at Loughborough University after gaining two 'A's and a 'B' in her 'A' levels where she will be reading Maths and Sports Science. Combining this with high level competition she will need to maintain a disciplined approach to all aspects of her life if she is to be successful. It will be interesting to watch and support her progress in the years to come.
