Mark Beaumont
Mark Beaumont, an adventurer from an early age, is a world record breaker who circumnavigated the world by bicycle - 18,296 miles in 194 days 17 hours, beating the previous record by an astonishing 81 days.
This seven month journey included 20 countries with Mark travelling through Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australasia and North America before arriving back to the finish line in Paris. The ultra endurance challenge involved a mugging, a crash, rescue by the police from a crack den and pushing boundaries on a physical and mental level. Along the way he has met some fantastic people, had great support from many people and seen some extraordinary sights.
In 2010, Mark continued to enhance his adventuring career, embarking on another solo and unsupported 15,000-mile journey from Alaska to Chile which involved 13,000 miles of cycling and reaching the peaks of the two highest mountains in the Americas. Both journeys have been filmed and screened by the BBC to popular acclaim.
Bringing the experiences to life through business and commerce Mark is the first LDC Ambassador. He continues to develop a successful public speaking career across many other areas including education and lecture tours.
As Patron of the Saltire Foundation, Scotland's leading intern and fellowship program, Mark promotes the role entrepreneurs play in business and supports this message through his school visiting programme, many of whom follow his expeditions online.
Mark continues to raise money and awareness for the TUSK Trust and The Active Earth Foundation.
